It was snowing when David drove us to the hotel near the
airport on Jan. 17, the evening before our flight. Despite the snow, we were excited to be leaving on our next
adventure. The flight to Los Angeles was
smooth, and we arrived on time. Most of
our several bags showed up, but not the one with John’s clothing. Naturally, he was somewhat upset about going
on a three month cruise with no clothes.
After several phone calls and much paperwork, all we could do was hope
for the best. We were very glad we had
gone a day early and stayed at a nice hotel at San Pedro, the port near
L.A. Not only did we have a chance to
walk around in the sunshine, but there was time for the missing bag to catch up
with us before the ship departed.
The Serenity has been refurbished since we were last on,
and she is more gorgeous that ever. We
are busy with our classes, but also enjoying meeting new people and the amenities of the ship. The response to our program has been
terrific. For the “beaded bag” project,
we expected about 25 guests but Gail had prepared 40 bags. We have had, so far, 54 guests attending our
class. Thank goodness we had left a box
of extra material from our time on the Serenity two years ago to make up extra
kits. The knitting classes have been
well received, averaging about 30 people per class. Things have been hectic, but we are having
lots of fun.
Now we are looking forward to arriving at Hilo (on the
“big” island ... Hawaiii) on Thursday noon.
Unfortunately, there will be some bad weather with high seas for the day
before our arrival, but we’ve been through this many times before.
